in the sea

I loved being underwater with Jess. OK, not exactly, but it was dark. And sharks swam over head in the tunnel. Blue waters all around us. And it was cool and refreshing. Not at all fishy like the penguins' exhibit.

His smile was amazing. I couldn't help but be over taken with laughter. It was unbelievable that he was here and we were together. I wasn't having to search for him in a crowded room. But his arm was around me. We were so close to something. But what? Really what was this?

No, no, don't question it. Don't think it. Just do. Just be. Just relax. We were together. I hadn't even an inkling what Will was doing with Angie. I didn't care. I couldn't. This was like an early birthday present or Christmas come early. Just being with Jess.

He pointed to a manaray. I loved science with Jess. God, I loved anything with Jess. Actually. Was I sick with love or lust? It didn't really matter.

"I love it here." I told him.

"Yeah, of course, you do." He almost laughed, but he gave me a kiss on the cheek. "I just wish things were different."

"Really?" I gazed at him. My blue boy. I sighed.

"I hate keeping you a secret. I really do." He looked sad then.

"Maybe-" What was I going to say. Maybe your Mom is crazy. Maybe she's over it. Maybe..... No, I would just be quiet bask in him a little longer. We stayed in the tunnel as families went by. Once we were alone, we kissed. As if that alone was enough not to keep us apart. Ever. I so wanted to be tangled up with him. But soon another swarm of familes came and Jess took my hand. We went off running. Out of the seaworld into the hot sunlight.

I felt so sleepy. I wanted to go back. I didn't want to be out in the open. But he pulled me along as if it were a dance, or maybe we were as one. He moved so fast. Through the ape house. Then the tigers. We went all the way to the polar bears. Not stopping once. We took a seat there. I was almost in his lap. Almost.

"There you are." It was Will. "I've been looking for you, everywhere." He was alone. "Everyone is waiting for you by the giraffes. We've got food waiting." He made me think of my father. Seriously, did I have to wake up from this?
